Our curriculum is rooted in the principles of the British Early Years
Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. The EYFS framework is designed to support children’s development in three prime areas and four specific areas.
The next four areas are known as specific areas and are:
These areas further strengthen the prime areas as the children develop.
The aim of our curriculum is to give children the vocabulary, knowledge and skills they need to develop independence, resilience and creative thinking. We nurture a love of reading, by giving the children access to a range of texts, including the classics and quality non-fiction texts which enlighten them on a range of subjects.; in addition to a high emphasis on oral and written communication and expression.
Communication and Language
Good command of communication and language is the foundation for all the other areas of learning and development. We support this by providing a
language-rich environment, reading frequently to children, and engaging them actively in stories, non-fiction, rhymes and poems, and then providing
them with extensive opportunities to use and embed new words in a range of contexts, which will give children the opportunity to thrive.
Physical Development
Physical activity is vital in children’s development, enabling them to pursue happy, healthy and active lives. It is important to develop their gross and fine motor experiences increasingly throughout early childhood. Gross motor skills provide the foundation for developing healthy bodies, social and emotional well-being while fine motor skills supports control and precision, helps with hand-eye co-ordination, which is later linked to early literacy. At Lilyrose we support this by providing opportunities for co-ordination and positional awareness through tummy time, crawling and play movement with both objects and adults.
ADVANTAGES OF BRITISH CURRICULUM
One of the key components of the British curriculum is the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, which focuses on the education and development of children from birth to five years old. The EYFS framework is designed to provide a strong foundation for children’s future learning and success. It emphasises a play-based approach to learning, recognizing that young children learn best through active exploration, experimentation, and hands-on experiences.
The British curriculum’s adaptability and international recognition have led to its widespread adoption in schools around the world, making it a popular choice for parents seeking a high-quality education for their children. It focuses not only on academic achievement but also on the development of well-rounded individuals who are prepared for success in an ever-changing global society. Throughout their education, students are encouraged to think critically, analyse information, solve problems, and communicate effectively. Assessments and examinations are often an integral part of the curriculum, helping students and educators track progress and identify areas for improvement.
Some of the key factors of the curriculum are listed below:
Broad and Balanced Education: The British curriculum provides a well rounded education that covers a wide range of subjects, including languages, sciences, humanities, arts, and physical education. This ensures that students receive a comprehensive and balanced foundation of knowledge and skills.
Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: The curriculum places a strong emphasis on developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Students are encouraged to analyse information, evaluate different perspectives, and apply their knowledge to real-world situations.
